In a post on the official SOCOM blog, Zipper’s Senior Community Manager Jeremy Dunham has confirmed that the Move-enabled squad-based shooter has been delayed into next year, after previously being pegged for a late 2010 release.
“While we’re certainly aware that you’ve been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don’t want to take any shortcuts,” wrote Dunham in the post. “Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we’re going to use our extra time to do just that.”
Joystiq contacted Sony for comment, and SCEA’s senior corporate communications director Patrick Seybold replied that “the team is focusing on additional features which will help to deliver the most compelling and immersion SOCOM experience yet. Please look out for further updates and announcements over the coming months.”
Whilst it’s never a happy experience to see a game delayed, if it means the end result is a more complete and polished product, then it is all for the better. Unfortunately for Sony though, it’s a big Move-supporting game pushed further away from release, which will likely make it tougher to win over that ‘core’ group to the controller come Christmas.
