This is my friend's psp btw:
Okay, so randomly she just turned on her psp recently and it just black screened with a greenlight, holding down the power switch does not turn off the psp, so we removed the battery for it to shut off. We're able to access the recovery menu by pressing/holding down r as we turned it on though.

Semi Brick. Thats what her PSP got.
There are 4 ways to Unbrick a Semi-Bricked PSP. But Ill show you 1 way since I haven't tested the other 3 If they work or not because I only have PSP3000. I don't want you to do what I haven't done to be safe.
Formatting your flash1.
Go to Recovery Menu
Go to Advanced and Format Flash one and Reset Settings.
It should boot up If Its a Theme File that is causing the problem.
When it boots, You might get the Blue Screen of Death on PSP. Just Press Circle Button to get rid of it.

No. Not a Screen of Death. And I think Screen of Deaths are not Permanent lol. He can access the Recovery Menu so it means his LCD is working fine, He is on Semi Brick, and He needs to Unbrick it.

at least you have 3 options:
1) format flash1 as SS said. to do so, go recovery -> advanced -> format flash1 and reset settings
2) recovery menu -> toggle usb , put this folder into psp/game, download 5.00 ofw eboot, rename it to 500.pbp and put it into root of ms. press toggle usb again -> run program at psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp. flash 5.00 m33 via recovery flasher and then re flash to 5.50 gen d3 if you want
3) use pandora battery -> test m33 -> reinstall 5.50 gen d3
there's some other way but i don't remember

It worked for a bit, but I can't remember how exactly it came back and started working.
Anyhoo. It sometimes lags and then powers off, but it only powers off after black screens and then eventually turns off.

Then its really recommended for you to do a Clean Install of a CFW. I remember HellCats Recovery can do that but Im not sure how to use it since I own a 3000.

I didn't leave my pandora battery with her. And her psp started really doing the whole black screen during loading a Monster Hunter map and then turning off after I haven't seen her in a while (She said it really started happening when she played with another friend during Monster Hunter... her friend had a hacked PSP as well.) She says it hasn't really blacked screened that much while playing singleplayer. It seems to only be black screening now when using wlan and such... Although she hasn't played that much singleplayer. So not for certain.
I'll look into Hellcats.
I've also tried downgrading from prometheus to D3(Final) and it still occurs.
I'm gonna just try to reflash with pandora and mms right now...
On another thought: Could this in anyway be linked to the memory stick?

Well. Try this things:
- Go and Restore Default Settings on the System Settings on your XMB Menu.
- Backup your Files from your Memory Stick and Format it using PSP Format Feature.
- Download a new Copy of Monster Hunter Game. Make sure its in ISO Format so It won't lag or take time to load.
- Try to get another downloaded game and see if the Black Screening still occur. Use it on Multiplayer too to make sure.
- During Online Gaming (Ad-hoc). Make sure your Friend and the Opponent has the same Channel. It is set to Automatic Channel but to be sure to have no interference, Choose other channel like Channel 1 or 6.
- Make sure that you don't have WLAN Power Saving Mode to On. Turn it off so you have WLAN on Full Power.

Okay, so now sometimes when turning the PSP on, it has a black screen... the green light is flashing, and the memory stick orange light is flashing. So I eventually turn it off. Pop out the memory stick, and pop it back in. It seemed to turn on then. I'm not sure how old the memory stick is, it's used and from a previous owner of the PSP before it became my friend's.
Still working on reflashing, was away a day. XD;
@SS: How do I switch the WLAN from power save to full?

Settings -> Power Save Settings -> WLAN Power Save and set it to Off.
Well I guess that its your MS Problem. it is probably corrupted. GO and check if its fake.
Hover on the Videos, Music or Game Tabe on the Memory Stick and click Triangle Button. Hit Information and check if your MagicGate™ is Supported. If it shows Unknown or Unsupported, then its Fake.
Try using another MS and use it for sometime and see the results. If the problem still persists even on the other MS, then probably still with your Firmware Problem. Reflash it with a fresh CFW.

Hellcat's recovery flasher. That's what you need
It's here somewhere. You could also either update by running the update from the recovery or use hellcats recovery flasher.
Sounds like she turned off while updating. I'm surprised by the amount of people who do that.

It's pretty simple. Make a pandora battery using GEN D2 (You're on GEN D3 so you can downgrade and upgrade in the GENS safely and freely without any hassle). Just download GEN D2 and install it, YES you'll downgrade to D2 lol. then download Rains Ultralite MMS Maker. Follow the instuctions of the program to make a mms and then re-install CFW to the psp...and problem solved. If you need detailed steps just ask. You can always go back to GEN D3 afterwards.
