This started when I got my internet hooked up at my new house, when I'm downloading a torrent no pages will load in firefox. I haven't tried any other browsers but I don't plan on using any others so it doesn't really matter. I had this problem first with Vuze and switched to uTorrent hoping it would fix the problem but didn't. I'm guessing the torrents are hogging all the bandwidth or something, I don't know much about that stuff so idk. Normal downloads (megaupload, for example) work fine. I'm using a Motorola modem with a router built in, can I go into my router config and change something that will fix this?

Someone has to know something about this, surely most people here use torrents and I know a lot of you know a little about networking. This is driving me crazy, and in addition to pages not loading it slows my XBL.

When you open firefox, does it wait and load for about 1-2 minutes then give you the error? Does it load at all? Or does it give you a connection error right away?

Same problem happens on me. My Net Speed got faster tho but I cannot use the browser to surf while downloading.
Idk if uTorrent or Vuze has a Speed Limiter Feature. Im not used to using those programs so you can go try and see the Options menu. This could help

@USMarine:
Usually I already have firefox open when I start a download, but once the download starts and I click back over from uTorrent to firefox and try to refresh a page or whatever it loads for about five seconds then gives me the "timed out" error.
@Proton:
Not sure, lemme check lol. And yeah the weird thing is that my net speed is faster here, whereas at my old apartment I had the cheapest package and didn't have this problem.

I've got my limiter set so that it shouldn't interfere at all, do I need to set up a port? I've started setting one up and for some reason when I open a port in my router config uTorrent still says it's not open.
When setting up the port, do I use the port number uTorrent gave me for both the start and end port? And also what should I set the static IP as, does it matter? It's currently set as 192.168.0.1
EDIT: Router info > Motorola SURFboard SBG901 (Modem/Router combo)

Sounds like a bandwidth issue to me. The way you described your page loading says that it's trying to load, but doesn't have the proper, how do I put this, "resources" to load, mainly because your torrent provider is using it up.
This happens to me too sometimes, when I'm playing online with the PS3 and trying to use my laptop to surf the net at the same time. The PS3's Online game starts lagging and I get the same symptoms off of my browser you are having. Switching one of them off fixes this issue most of the time.
Trying another browser is worth a try, but I doubt it will change anything at all. Have you checked with your ISP to check how much bandwidth you are using?

Yeah that must be it Marine because the limiter didn't work and as Proton said opening a port probably won't fix it. Ah well I do most downloading at night for big files anyways, it's not a big enough issue for me to want to deal with the ISP. Well if anyone has a new idea feel free to post it, if not don't worry about it. Thanks for the help.

From what I know , I reduced the uploading speed and it loads. Uploading speed really takes a whole lot of bandwidth which slows your internet speed for example loading of pages and stuffs.

Unadjusted torrent client can use up to massive amount of connections and if you don't control it, that would be the reason why torrent will stall your browser to no connection at all.
Depend on your connection and torrent client, usually 80 connections per torrent download and run only 1 or 2 at a time. Make sure you down/upload speed is also capped so it doesn't reach more then 80% of your true speed.
So sum it up, don't overload incoming connection and reserve down/upload speed for your browser.

Didn't think about limiting connections, will try with next torrent.
