For reason your firmware is too old so you need to update from firmware to firmware. Direct update to latest is impossible as required files doesn't exist on older CFW.

I recommend going 3.71 M33 then to 5.00 M33, and last 5.50 GEN-D3 the final CFW of all. Process might seems long but is safer.

DOWNLOADS: I recommend you download 3.71 files for now and move on to later when 3.71 is done with.

3.71 Firmware http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EW0QPINY (pls rename to EBOOT after download)
3.71 M33-2 Updater http://www.psp-hacks.com/download.php?id=1290

5.00 Firmware http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YJHQSNH0 (pls rename to EBOOT after download)
5.00 M33-4 Updater http://dl.qj.net/psp/hacks-exploits/cfw-500-m33-4.html

5.50 GEN-D3 Pack (Includes 5.50 firmware) http://www.mediafire.com/?ybnmdywou2n

Standby Procedures:
1. Connect PSP to PC and fully format your memory stick with windows. (not quick format)
2. Disconnect when done, go on PSP > System > Format Memory Stick.
3. On PSP System menu, go 'Restore Default' option and PSP should halt abit and reboot itself.

This is to prevent unwanted errors during the upgrade process.

--------------------------

Procedure 1: Update your 3.40 OE to 3.71 M33-2

1. Put 3.71 M33-2 'UPDATE' folder to your PSP/GAME folder and place the 3.71 firmware 'EBOOT.PBP' into the 'UPDATE' folder as well.

NOTE: When done make sure PSP has battery in it and running with AC power, then go launch the updater. Do not unplug AC or battery during the flashing process or else will brick. Press X on PSP after done.

Procedure 2: Update your 3.71 M33-2 to 5.00 M33-4

Make sure you delete the UPDATE older on your PSP before moving the new UPDATE folder

1. Put 5.00 M33-4 'UPDATE' folder to your PSP/GAME folder and place the 5.00 firmware 'EBOOT.PBP' into the 'UPDATE' folder as well.

Flash it like you did with 3.71. But after this please go on PSP System menu, 'Restore Default' option and PSP will reboot itself.

Procedure 3: Update your 5.00 M33-4 to 5.50 GEN-D3 Final

1. Delete the update older like always. In the 5.50 GEN-D3 Pack, there's 550.PBP place it to MS root where all the PSP, MUSIC, PHOTO, MP_ROOT folders are. Then place the UPDATE folder into PSP/GAME again and you're good to go.

2. On the UPDATE program option menu, make sure you choose the first option. then it will does the rest. And press X after done.

-----------------

Go recovery menu:

1. Shutdown PSP fully. Press hold R button and boot PSP until screen shows up. You'll be in PSP Recovery Menu.

2. In there set both CPU to 333/166MHz. And UMD emulator to either Sony NP9660 or M33 Driver to play those downloaded games.

Do what Anemone posted. Just be careful when updating. Don't press a lot of buttons as you might brick your PSP. I'll take the money for Anemone. Here is my PayPal: agroam@hotmail.com wink.gif
