i have gen b2 now. but is it practical to upgrade or just let it be? cuz some games now are patched for all firmwares.

I would upgrade to Gen-D3, since it's the latest one, however, you could just use B2 and play all the games.
Both D3 and B2 are 5.50, if I'm not mistaking, so you don't need to update in the case of playing newer games
