Well I am trying to erase everything on my drive because I have a bunch of junk. Since I don't have a CD I am unable to do that so I will have to use a CD anyways. I figured that while I am at it I could maybe upgrade to Vista. If any of you can help me that would be grand!

On a level of noobness [1 - Not A Noob | 10 - Complete Noob]: I am a 9!

So here is what I was able to find out about my Windows XP (Version 5.1):

System:

Microsoft Windows XP
Proffesional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Computer:

AMD Athlon ™ 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 4200
2.20 GHz 896 MB of RAM
Physical Adress Extention

Would you be able to tell me what I would need to do in order to install Windows 7 on my computer?

Your PC can run Windows 7 fine. But to be sure, yo should at least buy a 1 GB RAM or if you have more money, Buy a 2 GB one. This will make your System run faster with 7. With your Current RAM, Im not sure if yo will be able to run Aero fine. IT might lag especially if you use RAM hog programs.

I don't know much about AMD CPUs but as I see there that you have AMD 64 X2. Probably you can run 64-bit Version of 7. IT is more faster than 32-bit but you should have at least 4+ GB of RAM for a more 64-bit feel. If yo know that you can get 4GB of RAM get the 64-bit.

You can also get a copy of Windows 7 over here for FREE: http://www.psperspective.net/index.php?showtopic=39545

Hope this helps! happy.gif

mean you don't have a DVD drive, or you don't have the disk with the program on it?
if you do have a DVD bruner

First I would get Magic ISO Maker from Lithium's Ultimate PC Softwares post, so you can burn/mount the ISOs you will need to download on a disk.

Secondly I would suggest you make a DBAN disk and run that efore you isntall Windows if you want to completely eliminate all the files on that HDD. You could use the instilation disk to reformat your drive before installing Windows, but I have done it that way several times before and it allways leaves some data on the disk.

I would use the copy of Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (OEM) 32bit/64bit Hybrid ISO. Wraith provided
After the install use Windows 7

Loader EXtreme Edition v3.502
provided by Wraith

Installing Wondows 7 on your current PC with 896 MB of RAM should work fine, but it is more than likely going to be slow. As in the posts above note you will propably need to install at least 1 GB or RAM (2 would work even better).
