How to perform a clean install.

1st off download any of the OS (Operating System) any rather they are clean or modified versions of Windows XP or Windows Vista that you wish to install on your computer. After that use any burning software that can burn disc image Imgburn, nero, etc. & for people wondering can any of Windows Vista OS’s fit on a regular CD R or RW “NO” it cant. That requires a DVD R or RW. I use a DVD+R because my labtop wont burn DVD-R’s.If you wonder which one your cd/dvd burner take rather it’s + or – check really close on the drive itself & see it should have ether the – or + sign this way you can tell which blank CD’s & DVD’s you can burn. For the newbies that’s new to this make a folder & download all parts of the OS you wish to install on yourcomputer in that folder you just created. Now when all parts are in that folder “if you have winrar which I recommended” right click on the 1st part & click extract here. After that you should retrieve a iso from this. For the newbies the way you can tell if it’s a iso image it would have the file name at the end .iso

if the OS DON’T have no iso after you just finish extracting it just get rid of it & get another OS that you wish to install. Now after you receive the iso we are going to use aburning software I use nero 9 Lite. I recommend the newbies to use Imgburn because there is no other alternatives “options” like Nero that would get most of you confused thinking you have to burn a iso as a data cd or dvd. No you don’t never burn a iso as a data cd or a dvd. Because if you do it’s not going to be a iso that you want to install on youroperating system . If your using nero 9 like me or any other softwares.Your going to look for something similar to Disc Image & your going to select disc image screen shots for nero 9 users.Well nero 9 you select as it is shown Image,Project,Copies

Download

Nero 9: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=982PXW9Q

Imgburn: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QD0DL6HT

now your asked to select the ISO

after selecting the ISO alway make sure that you click Verify the disc after burning or if your using any other burning software it would just say Verify

If your using Imgburn Screenshots for Image burner users.

select the folder as shown it's the browse folder

select the iso

where it says iso this is to show you this is the iso you just selected also where verify is selected always make sure you verify any iso before burning it & then after that select the cd icons as you can see where I have it marked burn to burn it.

The verification for the disc burning is to make sure the disc is a 100% replica of the original disc making sure it work as a genuine copy of the original disc. Now what your going to do after burning it & verifying after the burning you can test it out by putting the cd or dvd that you just burned back in the cd/dvd drive & see if it comes up as a replica of the original disc would appear as these are a few screenshots after it finish burning & you insert it back in to the drive to see if the disc appears as a replica “attention” most modified version of xp & vista appears different after you finish burning & verifying it. The screenshots appears below after all the disc images I burn & I reinsert them.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION

After you finish burning the disc image NEVER install it right then & there again to overwrite/upgrade your computer you can just put it in to see how the disc image looks after it finish burning if you want but NEVER continue the process save all your documents, works, songs, pictures & any other files to a usb or to anothercomputer while your going through this procedure. & I mean save all your important files because everything from the current hard drive you have is about to be erased “wiped out”. Oh & I don’t want to forget also after or before you burn your disc image you also WANT to retrieve the drivers such as the video cards, network adapters, network cards, sound etc. Other then my thread a easy way how you can find the drivers is go to the companies website that made your computer. Dell, acer,HP, & many other company websites. & then look for a tab on the website it’s usually support or drivers & downloads but you would see on the companies website it would say drivers & downloads. Now from there when you click on that tab your gonna look for anything that says download drivers or drivers download “believe me every company website have to have drivers for each computer they make” & then from there your going to download the drivers & then your going to save those drivers to a usb or any other source for saving long as it’s not saved in the computer your about to install the OS on. If your gonna burn a Non Modified OS/Clean OS your going to have to copy down the product key of that OS because it will ask you to enter it. After downloading all the drivers lets proceed to the next step.

Clean Installation

Now that you save all your important files & drivers to a usb or whatever you prefer to save it to restart your computer. While your computer is in the process of shutting down windows you can put your disc image cd/dvd that you burned in there. Then when it restarts the cd or dvd should automatically be detected on the black screen it should say “PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD/DVD" & you do that or even before that shows up if you see a screen that says Boot Menu I believe its F12 or F10 every computer is different but if you see the Boot Menu as soon as your computer start you can do it from there & boot it from cd/dvd

For Vista Users.

After booting it from the drive if your installing a clean version of xp your going to see the vista screen & say install now & then after that your going to accept the terms & agreement “which is where the modified OS’s start you off” Then your going to click next now you should see your hard drives “most vista users have 2 hard drives” as in the screen shot below you will see the list of your hard drives mines is really 2 hard drives & 1 partition I’ll get into the partitions in another time now your going to format yourhard drive & if partitions are in it like you see in mines on the 2nd drive that looks like it’s a hard drive but it’s not.Your going to go as you see in my screenshot below to Drive options (advanced)

Now soon as you click on advance your going to format your hard drive & the partitions as well.from below you can see where I took the screen shot your going to select the hard drive that you want to format “erase” & on it it will ask you if you want to erase all your data etc click yes & do this with the other partitions or hard drives as well so they wont be any conflicts.

After formatting the hard drive you’ll see the free space is avaliable almost as much as the Total space. Your going to select the hard drive the main hard drive “of course with the most GB” & then your gonna click next as it is shown in below the screenshots “make sure before you click next that youhard drive is format” & then proceed on & booyah that’s your process for a clean installation after installation is finish whatever you save your drivers to install all your drivers back on here & your good to go.

XP Users

I don’t have no screen shots because it’s not complicated after finish booting from the disc you’ll see a blue screen loading alldrivers etc it’s gonna take about 5 minutes or a little bit more “depending on what you have in your system” after it finish loading accept the terms & agreement & then your gonna see yourhard drive which I believe it’s labeled as partition. Your going to DELETE that hard drive & any other hard drives or partition that shows up after that your going to I believe it would say create partition or uknown partition your going to create it & I think it should say something like create quick NTFS format or create NTFS format I prefer create the NTFS format not the quick one “even though the quick one work to” after that’s finish creating it will create all the files needed to install windows & then from there it will install windows by itself in the middle of installing windows, windows will ask for a product key “if it’s not a modified OS & it’s a clean OS it will ask for a product key” just enter that product key & that’s it, after windows finish installing whatever you save your Drivers for your computer on USB etc just put it back in after installation is finish & booyah there is a nice clean installation

Note

For users wondering what cd or dvd R’s or RW’s should be used for Vista & XP. Mostly all XP OS’s fits on a regular standard CD R or RW that’s 700 MB. Vista can ONLY fit on a regular stanard DVD R or RW which the regular standard is 4.7
