[OUTDATED] THE BEST TUTORIAL
(tutorial will get bigger and bigger when people want me to add topics in here! So put a reply or PM is all it takes)

This Guide will be updated every single month based on updates that Dark_Alex makes.

Updated in: Thrusday, April 23, 2009

What are Custom Firmware and Offical Firmware? (+how to check it and what format for update)

Custom Firmwares are modified versions of Official Firmwares released by Sony for the Sony PSP(PlayStation Portable). You have to use the official firmware file with the file that is provided when downloading CFW's. Custom Firmwares are made with the intention of unlocking the full potential of one's PSP, including a Recovery Menu, Internal Flash access, running of unencrypted code, running of UMD Game Backups in the form of CSOs, ISOs, or in Dark_Alex's DAX format.

To check what firmware you have you have to go to your PSP-System Settings-System Information. For example an official firmware will like Version 5.00 and a custom firmware PSP would have 5.00m33-3

IF you want to update your System then you will have to follow use a PC and the files would go to:
PSP-GAME-UPDATE
Note: The update folder is sometimes provided with the firmware update so all you have to do is just copy and past. And then you will have to copy the .bin or eboot file to you root of your memory stick

How to determine what PSP you have?

To determine what PSP you have is simple. Close to your charger port (yellow) on the left you will see a serial code you will notice XXXXXXXXXXX-PSP????. That question mark should either say 1000, 2000, 3000. PSP 1000 means that it’s the first edition of the Sony PSP or known as FAT and its HACKABLE! PSP 2000 is the second edition of Sony PSP or known as SLIM and its also HACKABLE! Unfortunately PSP 3000 is NOT hackable at the moment.

OR....
PSP 1001

PSP 2001 & PSP 3000

What firmwares are there?

Here´s what i can tell you

There are M33 and OE custom firmwares

But i´ll be talking about M33 only

M33 CFs and updates:

3.52 M33 (-2; -3; -4):.................. 1.50 works (the only CF that doesn´t need a 1.50 kernel intalled(1.50 is for playing homebrew games));vsh menu access by pressing menu button.

3.60 M33 for slim..........................Almost all of 3.52 features except the 1.50 kernel (doesn´t work on 3.60)

3.71 M33 (-2; -3; -4):....................1.50 kernel not working; VSH Menu is not longer launched using HOME key, but using SELECT now;

3.80 M33 (-2; -3; -4; -5):...............Certain games can not be played while mount driver on m33; bug and and other compabily problems not fixed from 3.71 ;1.50 kernel not working

3.90 M33 (-2; -3):..........................Skype update for slim , GoMessenger (doesn´t work properly) M33 mount driver compatibiilty was increased to be able to play games like Coded Arms, Patapon, Harvest Moon Innocent Life and others withthe same problem.;1.50 kernel not working

4.01 M33 (-2) ................................Recovery menu has been translated into over 15 languages; camera problem fixed; 1.50 kernel not working

1.50 kernel available

4.01 m33
3.90 m33; -2
3.80
3.71 m33; -2

skype, go messenger, ps3 connection, ect are all features mainly from psp official update which are also installed in m33 (some with bug problems which are fixied on future updates)

The big question….
HOW to make a Pandora batter? (very risky recommend not to try it)
The hard mod way…
Please note that while this concept may work on non-Sony batteries, only official batteries are guaranteed to have the same internals, so we recommend using one.

STEP 1:

The first thing you need to do is obviously crack open the battery. Surprisingly, the battery isn't very hard to get in to. In this picture you can see that I'm just using a guitar pick to slide in through an edge and slide around the perimeter of the battery to seperate the two halves.

STEP 2:

Next, we need to locate a certain chip. The chip has the model number S93C56 printed on it. We are going to need to desolder pin 5 and lift it off of the board. Here is a magnified view of the board, which shows where the chip is and which pin needs to be lifted.

Newer batteries have a much smaller board with a different layout. The same chip needs to have the pin lifted, but the chip is in a different position. Once you've located chip S93C56, the rest of the instructions are basically the same. This has been confirmed with the 2200 mAH Official Sony battery.

STEP 3:

If you are not confident in your soldering skills, have a less than steady hand or have a larger-than-optimal sized tip, please desolder the cell pack from the battery first. If you make contact between pins 5 and 6 then you will short ground to +3.6VDC! Not good! When desoldering the cell, only keep the iron on long enough to melt the solder. If you can, use a higher wattage iron so that the tip will be hotter, but you won't transfer as much heat to the cell pack. Remember that heat + Li-Ion battery = large explosion (t3h sux0r5, unless you get in on video. Seriously though, this operation is not for the faint hearted, and should definitely not be your first soldering experience. I recommend trying your hand on lifting the pins on an N64 CPU chip. Surely if you spend enough time here you have a couple killed N64 mobos laying around. )

Now is actually desoldering the pin. There are a few ways you could do this, but I think my method is the best because its less likely to damage components near by. Use an Xacto knife with a sharp tip and try to put it underneath the pin. Get somebody to hold a soldering iron (WITH A VERY FINE CONICAL TIP!) on the pin. When the solder melts you can pop the pin up with the knife. Be sure not to hold the iron on the board too long to avoid the lithium battery from getting too hot and exploding. When your done it will look something like this.

STEP 4:

Finally, close the battery's casing. Use some Krazy Glue to keep it closed, or just use electrical tape around the edges like I did. I don't actually recommend the electrical tape as it makes the battery very snug in the compartment and it takes a bit of force to get it out. You can use the battery just like a regular Pandora's battery. As for getting the Memory Stick files, I can tell you that they are out there and you can find them after a bit of Googling. However, I can't tell you exactly where to find them as they contain copyrighted Sony code, and sharing them is illegal.

How does this work?

The pin that we just lifted was actually the ground pin of the EEPROM. Removing this pin effectively shuts off the EEPROM. When the microcontroller inside the battery tries to read the EEPROM, it will think the EEPROM contains all 1s (in binary). This is because of the pull-up resistors on the data lines. So the microcontroller returns a serial number of 0xFFFFFFFF to the PSP, which then goes into service mode.

How to make a Magic memory stick?

So here's a super easy way to make a magic memory stick on XP with despertar v3 & 3.71m33-4 update.

CODE
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?3bl4zmregzx (24mb).

Extract it and launch a command prompt (start -> run -> 'cmd'), then navigate to the extracted directory. Run these 3 commands (replace X with your memory card's drive letter):
• mspformat X (If you are using your PSP's USB connection to write to the memory stick, you must disconnect and reconnect after this step)
• xcopy /KE ms\* X:\
• msinst X MSIPL.BIN
Or you can simply buy the Pandora battery from:

Installing Custom XMB Themes
So, here's a guide on how install custom themes. Without flashing, of course.

1. First download the CXMB v2.31 files. Extract the archive, then copy the "cxmb" folder to your memory stick drive (e.g. X).

2. Enter the "seplugins" folder on your memory stick. If it does not exist create it.

3. Inside seplugins, there should be a file called "vsh.txt" If not then create the file.

4. Open up vsh.txt and add the following line of text: ms0:/cxmb/cxmb.prx then close and save the file.

5. Boot up your PSP in recovery mode (hold R for about 10 secs after flicking the power switch).

6. In Recovery Mode, navigate to the Plugins section, and enable cxmb.prx.

7. Exit recovery mode.

8. That's it! You're done! Your PSP will not boot up with a different theme, but now, you're probably already wondering how to get different themes on your PSP. It is very easy.

Installing themes onto your PSP

1. Download CXMB Theme from the theme section of this website.

2. Connect your PSP to your PC via USB cord.

3. On your memory stick, navigate to the folder \PSP\THEME

4. Copy the Theme.CTF file you downloaded to the \PSP\THEME folder.

5. Once done copying, disconnect your PSP, then on your PSP menu, goto your System Settings, then to Themes.

6. Select your new theme from the list and hit X. This should reboot your PSP into the new theme.

Download CXMB:

How to put in Games?
If you have a custom firmware then you can run the game. Download the game then install Win war to extract the files. Once you have extracted the files its going to come out as .ISO or .CSO Then simply just copy that file that comes after the extracting to your memory stick in your ISO folder.
I don’t have a ISO folder….
If you don’t have a ISO folder then either you forgot to format your memory stick. To format your memory stick you simply go to your PSP Settings-System settings-Format Memory Stick. Note: Backup everything before you do this like Game saves or music…
Downgrading slim or phat psp
Started with the Magic Memory Stick.

Download the files linked below...

Due to the size limitations on Media Fire I have split the download file into 3 parts. You will need to download Part1, Part2 and Part3 then place all Parts in the same directory on the PC and choose Univer_File.part1 to extract. Part2 and Part3 will automatically extract with Part1 creating the complete folder.

You are now finished with the Magic Memory Stick part of the guide.

===============================================================

This part of the guide will give you some options on getting a Pandora Battery.
The recommended option that I suggest is buying a Datel Tool battery...
You can do a Google search and find a website that offers this type of service battery.

A second option is Hardmoding the battery. This can be dangerous if not done properly. I take no responsibility if something goes wrong with this option.

I also will not reply to any questions regarding this option. I do not recommend it and have not done it myself. You will need to take the necessary steps to find this information out on your own.

I will however provide you with this guide HERE that shows how to Hardmod a FAT/SLIM Battery.

After you have made the magic memory stick and got a Datel Tool Battery/Hardmodded the Battery you can now use them to install custom firmware to a FAT/SLIM PSP.

Just place the Magic Memory Stick in the PSP and then place the Datel Tool/Hardmodded Battery into the PSP and a menu should come up. X will install 3.71 M33-2 to the PSP and O will install 3.71 official firmware to the PSP.

After it has finished installing the files you can then turn off the PSP and replace the Battery with the normal 1. If you Hardmodded the Battery you will need to unmod it to get it back to normal use.

===================================================================

Now it is time to install the UPDATES/ADD ON files.

Go to Game Menu Memory Stick and run MUX 2.0 application.

This will bring up a menu that has all the updates listed.

Choose the update by moving the X at the left up and down with the D-Pad. Then press X when you select the update you want. The Memory Stick Led will flash a few seconds (3.80 M33 and 3.90 M33 flashes a little longer) and after it stops flashing you can go to EXIT at the bottom of the list and it will exit to XMB. Now run the UPDATE via Game Menu Memory Stick.

For those wanting to go to 3.80 M33 or 3.90 M33 or 3.95 GEN just go straight to it and skip the 3.71 M33-4 update.

Those that have a FAT PSP you can also install the 1.50 ADD ON that corresponds with whatever firmware you choose to update to (3.95 has no 1.50 ADD ON at this time).

PSP Grader Lite Tutorial - Flash CFW To Any PSP

This tutorial will teach you how to flash a Slim PSP or Fat PSP that has any official firmware with 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware.
PSP Grader Lite was made by a member of muppet-modding.com called Klutsch, he also has his own blog.
If you use this program and it helps you out please consider donating to him as he puts a lot of work into these easy to use programs.

This is a noob-proof guide.

Requirements

a) PSP Slim (PSP 2000) or PSP Fat (PSP 1000) and PSP USB cable
Pandora's Battery
c) Memory Stick Pro Duo [64mb - 4gb] I have tested this and can confirm that it works with fake sticks.
d) PSP Grader Lite
e) Official FW Updates 1.50, 3.80
f) MS Net Framework 2.0 installed on your PC

How To

Step 1: Install PSP Grader to your PC in the default location [C:\ ] NOTE: Mine installed to C:\Program Files\
to view a image the link:
CODE
http://img357.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pspgradergv3.jpg

Step 2: Run PSP Grader, you will see 2 boxes at the top, add the location to your Official FW Updates 1.50 and 3.80 into the corresponding boxes.

Step 3: Plug your PSP into the PC via the USB cable ensuring that the Memory Stick Pro Duo is inserted into the PSP. Also be aware that this is going to format your memory stick so make sure to back up any important files first. The PSP Grader program will automatically find your PSP and ask if it is the drive you wish to format, select YES. Now in the bottom right corner of the PSP grader program select start.

Step 4: Your Memory stick is now ready, unplug the PSP from the USB cable, remove the battery and insert the Pandora's Battery whilst holding the L should button on the PSP. Once the IPL has loaded on the PSP simply press the X button. Wait. After around 1 - 3 minutes the Flash shall be done, press X to restart.
NOTE: Its is very important to just wait and not switch off the PSP or remove the Memory Stick or Pandora's Battery, it could result in a brick if you do not wait.

Step 5: Now you have custom FW 3.80 m33 on your PSP, format your memory stick in your PSP and update your PSP to whatever updated custom firmware you wish, or you can stay at 3.80, your choice.

Do you have CFW?
a.Go to System>System Settings>System Information. If your's says X.XX and has no M33 after it then you have OFW and you need to get CFW. Ask in the help section of the site or look on google for tuts.

I have CFW, but my ISO do not show up or I get an error.
Be sure that your ISO or CSO file is on x>ISO, where x is the PSP's drive letter. If you are getting an error when you try to run them then be sure you have a game UMD in your PSP, a movie will not work.
Also Go To Recovery Menu -->Configuration-->Set Your UMD Mode To:

Sony NP9660 -No UMD-
OR
M33 Driver

To Go To The Recovery Menu Turn Your PSP Completely Off The Turn It On Holding The R Trigger.

How to download something from megauploader?
1. Type the 3 digit number in the box next to it. Then hit download.
2. Wait 45 seconds
3. Or if you have premium account then hit the premium button.
4. Click free download and your download will begin.

Installing Despertar del Cementerio v7
This guide will guide you through the process of installing Despertar del Cementrio v7
Guide written by Bubbletune and Moose Island of QJ
This guide will work with both a PSP Slim and Classic!

IntroductionIn this guide we will explain the installation of Desperater del Cementerio v7. This will allow you to install 4.01 M33-2 directly on any PSP, providing that you have a homebrew-enabled PSP to make it on in the first place.
It will allow numerous things, installing both the 4.01 offical firmware and 4.01 M33, unbricking any PSP, testing 4.01 M33 directly from the memory stick, requesting information about the PSP's hardware, rebuilding your IDStorage from scratch, executing a physical format, and many more things.
If you've already got TimeMachine installed, it will integrate seemlessly, if you don't and want it, we suggest installing it before installing DDCv7, if you want to add TimeMachine to DDCv7 later, look at the TimeMachine guide.

WARNING: A Pandora's battery will NOT work on PSP's with the TA-088v3 motherboards. However, trying will not harm your PSP in any way.

What will I need?

* PSP Slim or Classic.
o Must be on either 1.50 or any custom firmware.
* USB Cable or memory card reader.
* One PSP battery (Slim or Classic).
o Your battery will be able to be converted back to normal.
* These files:
o Despertar del Cementerio v7 Installation Files:
CODE
http://dl.qj.net/Despertar-del-Cementerio-v7-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/22326/catid/151

o Hellcat's Pandora Installer Revision 4:
CODE
http://dl.qj.net/Pandora-Installer-for-3.xx-revision-4-PSP-Homebrew-Applications/pg/12/fid/17414/catid/151

o Sony 401.PBP: i dont have a link for that but will be uploaded soon or you can just google it!

Converting the battery

1. Extract the Pandora Installer Revision 4 you downloaded to your dekstop.
2. Enter the extracted folder and copy 'pan3xx' to X:/PSP/GAME on your memory stick.
3. Launch it via GAME > Memory stick.
4. If a message appears saying you have a TA-085v2 or higher motherboard, you can't convert your battery.
* In this case, either try a different PSP, or order a pre-made Datel Tool battery.
5. Choose either the option 'OK' or 'Do not show this again' at the credits screen.
6. Scroll down to 'Battery options' and choose 'Make battery Pandora'.
7. When done, exit the application.

Installing DDCv7

1. If the file X:/TM/config.txt doesn't exist, create one and leave it blank.
2. It's recommended that you get rid of DDCv5 and DDCv6 first by removing the X:/TM/DDCv5 and X:/TM/DDCv6 folder.
3. If you have any PTF themes enabled, disable them to prevent issues.
4. Extract the downloaded 'despertar6.rar' to your dekstop.
5. Copy the 'DC7' folder to 'X:/PSP/GAME/'.
6. Copy the downloaded 401.PBP to the root of your memory stick.
7. Launch the installer from GAME > Memory stick.
8. Press cross to start the installation.
9. Choose what button you want to use to boot into DDCv7 later.
10. Press cross to start the installation.
11. You'll have choose what button you want to use to boot into DDCv7 later, do so.
12. If the installer shows an error at 99%, you'll have to reformat your memory stick.
* Backup all data on your memory stick, it will get lost when formatting.
* Launch the Hellcat tool from the last section via GAME > Memory Stick.
* Scroll down to the 'Memstick and MS-IPL options' and choose 'Repartition and format MemStick'.
* Press L+R+X to confirm the re-formatting of the memory stick (all data will be lost).
* Restore your backup and repeat the DDCv7 installation steps.
13. Sit back and wait for the installation to finish.

Using Your Battery

* Turn off your PSP fully.
* Start your PSP whilst holding the button you chose during installation.
* Choose one of the options.
o Install 4.01 M33
+ This will install the latest 4.01 M33 custom firmware to your PSP.
o Install 4.01 OFW
+ This will install the official 4.01 Sony firmware to your PSP, keep in mind that you won't be able to run homebrew or benefit any of the custom firmware features.
o NAND Operations
+ Dump NAND will make a physical dump of your PSP's NAND chip, restoring it later will bring it back to the exact same state as it was when the dump was made.
+ Restore NAND will restore a dump, even though you need to be care full with this option, restoring another person's NAND on your own PSP will result in an incorrect IDStorage, although it's repairable now, it's always a better idea to keep the original.
+ Format Lflash will remove and recreate the flash0, flash1, flash2 and flash3 partitions, this will help when you have trouble installing any more due to incorrect partitioning.
+ IDStorage tools need to be handled with care, do not use them unless you have problems with your IDStorage, please make a post regarding the issues you are having and let the experienced members of these forums decide whether you should regenerate your IDStorage. Doing so for no reason just increases the risks of obtaining bad blocks in the IDStorage section.
o Hardware Info
+ This will display several details about the hardware of your PSP, such as your motherboard, model and several hardware versions.
o Test M33
+ This will boot you into 4.01 M33 entirely from the memory stick, even if no firmware is installed on your PSP's NAND.

This is on RECOVERY MENU in CONFIGURATI0N

what are megaupload rapidshare sendspace mihd .etc?

this are all hosting pages used by many people to save information
(in this case the psp games) on the web so other people can download them.

Are they free?

Yes they are all free to download from them.

What are this .rar :S i downloaded.?

This files are called winrar files.
They are used to compress files. a compressed file uses less memory space.you can also password protect the files

What do i do with the winrar file?

Just right click it and click extract to the name of the winrar file

For example have images.rar and i click on extract to images/

This will make a new folder appear. just open it and you´ll have the game.

What if my game has more than one part?

When a game you downloaded has more than one part (you had to download part 1, part 2 part 3 etc.)all you have to do is to save them in a same folder in your pc and then unrar them.
Meaning right click in one of them and click extract to( the name of the winrar file) as above

This will make a new folder appear. Just open it and you´ll have the game.

What is this file i got from the winrar?

That would be the game.

The game archives you find can eather end in a .cso or .iso

iso files are the game format accepted our psps custom firmwares.

They look exactly as a winrar file.but you´ll notice that it´s an iso if you winrar them. If you winrar it and find two folders by the names of PSP and UMD_data it means the winrar files was infact an iso.

cso files are compressed isos.meaning they take up less space on your memory card.

note:sometimes cso are also ripped of some stuff like the music, video scenes, etc (meaning the game doesn´t have music or movie scenes, etc, anymore). to take up less space

Why is my game lagging?
You game is lagging because you have a .CSO meaning its Compressed there for there are some things that the file is missing like a Update...Music...Vedio..ect... (note: this depends on the uploaded). If you have a ISO that perfect meaning its the actual game nothing is ripped from your game! Therefore, no laging!

Howdo i put them on my psp?

Step 1

Conect the psp via tha usb cable to the pc.

Step 2

On the psp

Go to settings and then click on the usb conection option

Step 3

On the pc

*A box will appear on your pc,choose the "open folder" option

*If the box doesn´t appear go to "my pc" and then to "hard disk G" or "something G" (my pc is in spanish so i´m translating the best i can.)

Step4

Now you should find some folders
(one by the name psp for example)

Now what you have to do is to look for one by the name ISO.
when you find it just drag the game you´ve got to that folder(inside the ISO folder)

Note:if you don´t have an iso folder disconet your psp and go to settings , then system settings and then to format memory stick.
after your done with this the conect the psp to the pc again and the ISO folder should be there now.

Step 5

After you´ve put the game in the iso folder just diconect the psp from the pc and then on your psp go to the game option and then to memorystick and the game should have to appear there.

Click X on the game and enjoy.

tip: To know how the games look like before you download them just look in youtube.com for the game´s gameplay.

how do i put videos on my psp?

Psp only accepts mp4 format videos.(for example: ironman.mp4)
this video files go in the video folder in you psp´s memorycard.(remember games go into the ISO folder, well the videos go the video folder which is almost at the buttom)

so if you don´t have any mp4 format videos, you´ll have to get a video converter.look for one in the psp or pc aplications forum.

notes:

mp4 fomat movies alway end on .mp4

how do i put music files on my psp?

Music files go in music folder in you psp´s memorycard.same way as the videoas but in the music folder.

Who to put gamesaves in your psp?

Download the game save and normally the file will come up like with all this numbers! All you have to do is just past the folder in your Save folder in your memory stick. Bit note: if your game is a Eur version and you download USA's game save they are not going to work! Therefore you need to have a Euro and a Euro save save to make the game save work!

How do i put ps1 games on my psp?

download a popsloader for the CF you have.then place the psx eboots (meaning th efolder with the eboot inside) in the psp/game folder and then run the game in the main screen of your psp.

What is a popsloader, what is it for

popsloader enables you to use the popsman.prx from any firmware you want.

Meaning the popsman.prx is the thing which makes the PSX games work on the PSP.
Normaly some psx games have more problems playing on some CF than others (example. freezing, not starting at all, etc)

This doesn´t mean that they work on newer CFs better than in old ones

In conclution when loading an psx game you can choose the CF that works better

What is homebrew?

Homebrew are aplication emulators and games which you can use in your psp aside from psp comercial games

How do i put homebrew on my psp?

Just place the two folders inthe PSP/GAME150 folder on your memorystick.
Then just run it as a any other game.

How do i put emulators on my psp?

Just place the two folders inthe PSP/GAME150 folder on your memorystick.
Then just run it as a any other game.

What is a brick or semi-brick?

There are two degrees of Bricking your PSP:

A Full-Brick occurs when you have a corrupted firmware in your PSP. it could happen if upgrading to a new firmware and lost power half way through, then your PSP wouldn't be able to boot at all. The only way to fix that would be with a Pandora battery. You could allso get a full brick if you completely erased your Flash memory and tried to reboot your psp without putting the correct backup files in there.

A Simi-Brick happens when you damage your flash0 ,by trying to add a vsh theme for the wrong version of firmware, or something like that. Anyway your PSP will not boot into your normal XMB, it powers on, the screen stays black for about 10 seconds, and shuts off. If this happens you can hold the R shoulder trigger when you power on your PSP and start recovery menu, and go into USB mode for flash0, if you have a copy of a good flash0 for your firmware version (hopefully you made a copy before you bricked your PSP, or you might be able to download the files0) if you copy that into your psp you should be back in business.

BACK UP YOUR FLASH 0

Here is how:
Connect PSP to PC
Enter recovery menu, go to advanced, then enable flash 0.
A window should pop up with the folders "dic, font" and "vsh" now copy and paste all of that to a secure location on your hard drive. For example, my flash 0 back up is on the root of my C drive in a folder named "FLASH 0 BACKUP"

What is a gameboot/cintro?

A gameboot is the short video played when you start a game from the XMB. A cintro, short for "custom introduction" is a short video played as you start up the PSP.

Which file format is a gameboot/cintro?

A gameboot/cintro has a .pmf file extension. (It has both audio and video)

What is the difference between gameboots/cintros and a coldboot?
A coldboot is the Official Sony Entertainment Logo that appears by default when you start up your PSP. It is a simple text message, something along the lines of "Sony Entertainment" but don't quote me on that because I haven't seen it in a very long time.

Can Coldboots be modified?

Yes they can. You have to go into your flash memory to do it and because it is a file from flash memory you will need to use one that matches your firmware version, so remember to make backups. To change the text, you need to modify opening_plugin.rco and to change the sound you need to modify opening_plugin.prx.

or

Here's a simple tool to use for making your own coldboots, it doesn't work for me but it's worked for some other people, remember to use a back up copy of your opening_plugin.rco for modification.
<a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EV9QTXQS" target="_blank">http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EV9QTXQS</a>

and remember opening_plugin.rco goes in Flash 0\vsh\resource

What is a soundboot?
A soundboot is the sound that plays when you first turn on your PSP. It's found in flash0/vsh/module and is named opening_plugin.prx because it is a file from your flash memory you will need to find one that matches your firmware version.
To view it you will need to enable view hidden folders and also show system folders, but there's a "feature" of vista that hides system folders even if you enable "view hidden folders".

How do I install my own soundboot?
Simply copy and paste opening_plugin.prx into your vsh/module folder in your flash 0. If you can't see it, enable view hidden folders and show system folders OR install with PSP Filer because the directory shows up there OR the easiest way: when you enable flash 0 as the usb device type in (PSP drive):vsh\module into the file browser bar. It's sort of like the URL bar but for browsing files ;D

Remember to make backups!

Here's the PSP Filer link: PSP Filer v6.0
CODE
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D7K7QB1Z

What if I want to go into my flash memory?
You can install a coldboot, soundboot and gameboot all straight to your flash memory but it really isn't advised. You can't do the same for a cintro because it's a movie played when your turn on your PSP and the PSP isn't made to do that from flash memory.

For a soundboot, paste the soundboot (opening_plugin.prx) you want into flash0\vsh\module.
For a coldboot, paste the coldboot (opening_plugin.rco) into flash0\vsh\resource.
For a gameboot, paste the appropriate opening_plugin.rco into flash0\vsh\resource (remember opening_plugin.rco is both the coldboot and gameboot timing) and the .pmf you want to play named "gameboot.pmf" into flash0\vsh\resource.

REMEMBER:: ONLY use flash0 files that match your firmware version.

KEEP GAMEBOOT.PMF UNDER 1 MEGABYTE OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE A SEMI-BRICK(just go to recovery menu, enable flash0 on usb and delete gameboot.pmf if you do manage to put one in there that's too big)

Do themes affect my gameboot/cintro/soundboot/coldboot?
Yes they can. There is a plugin called CXMB (Custom XMB) which allows a lot more customization for themes. Some themes have their own gameboots, cintros, coldboots and soundboots.

This can impact on the gameboot/cintro played and how long it plays for. I use myBootLogo for gameboots and Autostart.prx for cintros, and the only impact I've had from using custom themes is how long the gameboot plays. Normal (Non CXMB themes) however, will not have an impact.

Now the reason why this happens is because a CXMB theme is basically a bunch of flash 0 files smashed into one .ctf file so when you pick which one you want, what you are really doing is redefining values and replacing images so if you want your own coldboot or soundboot in a ctf what you are going to have to do is extract it and replace the appropriate flash 0 file. I wouldn't really advise this unless you have some experience at theme making because you need to tweak the time your coldboot and soundboot plays a bit.

CXMB File format .CTF
Normal XMB File format .PTF

Is there a way so that my own gameboot will play even if I do have a CTF?
Yep. Now here is what you do, first of all get CTF Manager appropriate for your version of firmware. I use 5.00 because it's the firmware I'm on.

How To Extract & Burn Your Very Own 360 Game!
Created by Supertrix

*Note* You may need to set the bitsetting/booktype of your DVD burner before burning your first game. Some burners auto-bitset themselves and you might not need to. If you have burned a 360 game before and it works then you don't need to mess with the bitsetting/booktype. Follow this tutorial for more information which is going to sppear soon

*Note* For the moment all 360 games are going to be 7.05gigs (due to placement of the SS) after being extracted, so be sure you have enough free space on your HDDs to extract the game.

For this tutorial, I'll go over how to extract and burn Halo 3. There are 2 parts, Extracting The Image and Burning The Image. If you already know how to extract the image you can skip the Extracting The Image part.

Part 1: Extracting The Image
What you will need:
-A completed download of a game
-WinRAR -8GB+ of free space on Hard drive

Step 1:

Any game that you download will probably be in a .rar format. You will need winrar to extract the files you need. To extract the image just double click on the first rar file (There will be a lot of rar files so make sure you click the first) Then a window will pop up, make sure you have two files: the ISO file, which will be the bulk of the file size, and a .dvd file to instruct CloneCD how to burn you ISO. Now click the "Extract To" button.

*Note* I've had a lot of times where winrar will only show the .000 or .ISO and no .dvd, this is because you are not selecting the very first .rar. Make sure it’s not .r00 but nameofgame.rar, the others make up the parts of ISO.

Step 2

Then you need to select where you would like the files to be extracted to on your PC. I usually make a temporary folder on my desktop for extracting the image and label it "Nameofgame Extracted" then delete it after I've burned the image.

Winrar will then extract the image from the rar files. Be patient it can take a while. My PC is 3ghz with 1gig of RAM and takes about 10-15 minutes to extract a 360 game.

When it's finished you should have a .dvd and .ISO or .000 file where you extracted them.

Usually you will extract a .dvd file and a .000 or .ISO file. The .dvd file is a hint that it is patched. If you get a .000 or .ISO file and no .dvd file: look in the rars and on the site for one, sometimes people forget to rar it with the image. If you find no .dvd file then the image is most likely not patched. You can create a .dvd file by simply creating one in in notepad, just right click -> File New -> Text Document and add these two lines to it, replace the first line with the name of your own ISO. It must be exactly the same name as the ISO file, if not, it won't burn it.

RENAMEMEWITHYOURX360GAME.ISO
Layerbreak=1913760

Make sure though you patch the .ISO before you do this - tutorial on how to stealth patch a game: Which is going to come in this tutorial soon!

*Note* The .dvd file (the small one) tells CloneCD to set the layerbreak at 1913760 and what file to burn (image), the other file that extracts (.000 or .ISO) is always the true image.

Step 3

Open the .dvd file and make sure you have the layerbreak at the top and the "nameofyouriso.iso" on the second line. If the second line is not the same as your .iso, RENAME it so that it matches. (Halo 3 had "Bone.iso" for some reason so I had to rename it)

Part 2: Burning The Image
What you will need:
- CloneCD -Password: supertrix (http://rapidshare.co...89/Clone_CD.rar)
- Blank DVD+R Dual Layer (DL) Disc
- DL burner

*Note* You will need to use CloneCD version 5.2.8.1 or higher. Lower versions do not support the layerbreaking of files (.dvd files).

*Note* You must have a Dual Layer burner to burn the games as they are ALL in Dual Layer format. Also note that not all burners will work, you may need to upgrade the FW of your drive or possibly buy another drive. If buying a new drive, get the Pioneer 111D as it's the best rated for burning 360 games. Also I recommend you use quality media, Verbatims are the best and what most of us use for 360 games.

Step 1

Open CloneCD then hit the "Write Disc" button.

Step 2

Next you need to hit the "browse" button.
A window will pop up and you need to select which .dvd file you would like to burn.

Step 3

After selecting "next" it will look for a blank disc in the drive, once you have one in, you can select the write speed. You should burn at 2x speed always (less chance of write errors).

Step 3

After selecting the write speed and hitting "next" CloneCD will begin to burn the disc. At 2x speed it normally takes about 43 minutes from start to finish.

When it's done burning the disc, it will eject and you will get a message that says:

Last step is to put the disc in the 360 and enjoy!
